Purple People Eater (1988) IMDB: 4.5 A long time ago in a department store far, far away a six year old me was browsing through the display of Halloween titles on video tape the store had set up, and there amongst the Jasons and Freddies was a movie based on a song starring TV's Doogie Howser, I walked out of that store without purchasing this film a mistake that has hung over my life for decades, a mistake that thanks to the glory that is youtube has now been rectified. Dear readers I give to you Purple People Eater starring Ned Beatty, Shelley Winters, Neil Patrick Harris, Dustin Diamonds, Thora Birch and Sheb Wooley. Billy Winters (Neil Patrick Harris) has been left at home with his older sister whom we never see again and his younger sister Molly (Thora Birch) in the care of their Grandpa (Ned Beatty). 7. Scream 2 Plot: Its been two years since the events of the original Scream film and a copycat killer is on the loose at a college where Sidney and Randy are students. Also returning is Courtney Cox as Gale Weathers and David Arquette as Dewey. Joining the cast is Timothy Olyphant, Jerry O'Connell and Rosanne's sister Jackie. My thoughts: A good sequel but not surpassing the original and the twist ending is a bit of a stretch. Still if you are a slasher fan or a fan of the first film give this one a go.
48. The Fly Rotten Tomatoes: 91% IMDB:7.5 Plot: Seth Brundle, played by Jeff Goldblum, is a scientist that has created a teleportation device but when he goes into the device to try it on himself a fly gets in with him and their dna is fused together creating Brundlefly. My Thoughts: "Be afraid, be very afraid." The tagline to movie claimed, well not really a scary movie but an unsettling movie. I had forgotten just how disgusting this movie is, it is disturbing on many levels. Considered one of the greatest remakes of all time, I lean towards John Carpenter's The Thing as my favorite remake but this is a very close second. It holds up really well too, this film is almost 30 years old but it still looks fantastic. If you haven't seen it please do, if you have go back to it.
