91. This is The End

Image
91. This Is The End Rotten Tomatoes: 84%   IMDB: 7 Plot: A bevy of actors, playing themselves in this film, are trapped in James Franco's house after the apocalypse.  My Thoughts: A very mete end of the world film where the characters feel too real to be likable. The actors are fearless and the performances really shine. It is funny and the action moments are good. I laughed out loud a few times which is more than most comedies get out of me.

90. Mad Monster Party

Image
90. Mad Monster Party Rotten Tomatoes: 67%   IMDB: 6.4 Plot: Dr. Frankenstein calls all the monster's together to his island, Island of Evil, to name his successor as the head of the monsters and bestow upon them all his secrets including his anti-matter formula. When it is learned he plans to name his mild mannered nephew the monsters plot to kill the nephew and take control themselves.   My Thoughts: A macabre entry into the Rankin Bass catalog with the voice talents of Boris Karloff and Phyllis Diller. For fans of their christmas classics this feature is a treat, all the classic monsters are represented including Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, hell even the blob makes a cameo. I enjoyed the hell out of this one and I think you will too.

89. Re-Animator

Image
89. Re-Animator Rotten Tomatoes: 93%   IMDB: 7.2 Plot: Based on H.P. Lovecraft's "Herbert West Re-Animator." Herbert West is a medical student that has discovered a formula to re-animate dead tissue.  My Thoughts: Maybe the best Lovecraft adaption to date, still hoping for Del Toro's Mountains of Madness, the effects look great, the acting is good and the tone is just the right mix of humor and horror. Highly recommend.

88. Haunted World of El Superbeasto

Image
88. Haunted World of El Superbeasto IMDB: 5.8 Plot: Masked "hero" Beasto and his sister Suzi X have to rescue a stripper from Dr. Satan before he gets the power of hell in this adults only cartoon. My Thoughts: This is one of the sleaziest craziest cartoons I've seen and that's saying alot. Recommend if you can laugh at zombie nazis and countless sex jokes.

87. Hellboy Blood and Iron

Image
87. Hellboy Blood and Iron IMDB: 6.7 Plot: The B.P.R.D. are called upon to investigate a mansion that is supposedly haunted as a political favor, they find more than just ghost when they come across the newly risen Blood Countess Bathsheba.  My Thoughts: I am a Hellboy fanboy. I love the live action movies and I love the comics. I was excited to learn about the two animated movies featuring the voice cast from the live action movies and animated in the style of the comics, the first one was about a Japanese demon connected to a sword and this one is vampires, harpies, werewolves and an ancient goddess. I really enjoyed this movie. If you are a fan of the characters like I am you will enjoy this, if you are unfamiliar with the characters I think this is a good intro. While not so patiently waiting for Hellboy 3 this is a good snack.

86. Halloween 6: Curse of Michael Myers

Image
8. Halloween 6: Curse of Michael Myers Rotten Tomatoes: 7%   IMDB: 4.6 Plot: Mikey Myers returns to Haddonfield to hunt down his great niece and pass on his legacy of terror. This movie was Donald Pleasence last film and one of Paul Rudd's first, here he plays Tommy Doyle (the boy Jamie Lee Curtis was babysitting in the original). My Thoughts: I have to confess this might be my favorite Halloween film. I love this movie, it is second only to the original it is also the last watchable Halloween movie. There are a lot of flaws in this movie don't misunderstand me, some of the dialog is stilted and clunky and some of the actors are flat out bad but Michael is never more badass than in this movie. Lifting a nurse up by her neck one armed and slammed into a wall spike is the opening kill and it goes from there. Yes this one is heavy in some weird myth building that doesn't exactly fit in with the others but damn I love it. I recommend this one.

85. Silent Hill: Revelation

Image
85. Silent Hill: Revelation Rotten Tomatoes: 6%    IMDB: 5 Plot: After her father is captured Sharron must travel to Silent Hill to face the monsters and learn the truth about herself. My Thoughts: I was looking forward to this movie, I really liked the first film, I loved the games and the fact that they were going to use mostly practical effects with CGI embellishment made me happy, sadly this film is a mess. The plot is convoluted and moronic, the dialog is Shyamalan cringe worthy and I don't think I can legally call what I saw acting. Sean Bean is the only good performance in this film and he is sidelined quickly, even personal favorite Malcolm McDowell is terrible in this film. Good God it's predictable and for a movie under 90 mins to drag is a real problem, avoid this movie re-watch the first one, play the games or watch some paint dry any of those is a better option.

84. V/H/S/2

Image
84. V/H/S/2 Rotten Tomatoes: 72%   IMDB: 6.1 Plot: Anthology of found footage horror shorts. My Thoughts: Anthology films are always such a mixed bag, there are things to like and things to hate sometimes in the same story. With this movie I didn't find that one stand out story that I feel will stay with me like there was in the first film, the haunted apartment segment in the first film was incredible, but none of these were bad just not great. The wrap around stories seem to be world building setting up some grand mythology for the tapes witnessed in the films, not sure how that will pan out. Ultimately some of the effects look really bad, I'm looking at you Alien Abduction Slumber Party, but overall it was an enjoyable experience. If you are a fan of found footage or of anthology I definitely say give this one a go ahead.

83. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Image
83. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Rotten Tomatoes: 100%   IMDB: 8 Plot: A 1920 German silent film about a mystic controlling a sleep walker he forces to commit murder. My Thoughts: One of the earliest horror films and I certainly appreciate the odd angles and tone of this film. I just don't like silent movies. I guess I'm neither hipster or snobbish enough to proclaim a love for them. I do like how everything in this movie is a bit off and the reveal of the characters all being in a mental hospital is a nice touch that explains why the film is so demented but still not that great, certainly not a 100 on Rotten Tomatoes, it feels like one of those things where critics are scared to not like it so they over like it. It doesn't hold up and the soundtrack is awful, much like Nosferatu I switched over to a soundtrack of my own and listened to Marilyn Manson which suited the film pretty well. Between the two Nosferatu delivers more than this one. Pass.

82. The Conjuring

Image
82. The Conjuring Rotten Tomatoes: 87%    IMDB: 7.6 Plot: The Warrens are called in to help a family being haunted by a malevolent spirit. My Thoughts: "Based On A True Story" This is something thrown around a lot, it is truer in this film then others but still this isn't a documentary, it is based on what these people said happened. The jump scares are earned, and the scares are definitely brought. This is one of the best haunted house/demonic possession to come out in awhile. It reminded me a lot of Poltergeist, with shades of things that have come since including of course James Wan's Insidious. Overall a good movie and good for a scare this or any other Halloween.

81. Feast II: Sloppy Seconds

Image
81. Feast II: Sloppy Seconds Rotten Tomatoes: NA   IMDB: 5.1 Plot: The morning following the events of Feast a female motorcycle gang set out to avenge the death of one of their own, the woman that got monster raped in part one before being a human bomb. We also follow the adventure and eventual team up of a used car salesman, his cheating wife and the employee she cheats with. Two midgets named Lightning and Thunder that are ex-wrestlers and now key makers. Rounding out the list is the old bartender, Clu Gulager, and Honey Pie both returning from part one.  My Thoughts: Not as much fun as the original but still a unique fun experience. Having it happen during the day and putting the creatures in full daylight gives this a fresh take. Using rubber suits instead of cheap CGI brings some realism to the film that it would have been lacking, add in a baby tossing scene and you got a cheap good time. Not for your average film goer, but I know you dear readers are not average

80. Possession

Image
80. Possession Rotten Tomatoes: 39%   IMDB: 5.8 Plot: A little girl buys a box at a yard sale and unleashes the demon kept inside, a Rabbi must be brought in to perform an exorcism. My Thoughts: This movie delivers the creep factor. The shift from being the standard Catholic Priest exorcism and the power of Christ compelling to being a Jewish demon that must be cast out by a Hasiditic Jew, played wonderfully by Hasiditic Jew Reggae star Matisyahu, makes it feel fresh and different. The performances are good all around, I am a fan of Jeffery Dean Morgan or Papa Winchester as I like to call him and he doesn't disappoint here. Worth a watch.

79. Camille

Image
79. Camille Rotten Tomatoes: NA   IMDB: 5.8 Plot: On their way to Niagara Falls on their honeymoon, Silas and Camille get into an accident and Camille dies. She just doesn't know it, now Silas has to figure out how to break it to her while dealing with her decomposing and dodging the police. My Thoughts: This is a sweet movie with a twisted sensibility. James Franco is great as always as Silas a man who only learns to love his wife after he loses her. Sienna Miller is the right mix of cute and annoying as the dead girl that won't shut up. Throw in David Carradine as Cowboy Bob and David Carradine look alike Scott Glenn as Sheriff Foster, Camille's uncle, and you got a great cast. The opening is a bit lagging and you have to just go with the story but it is well worth a watch, recommend.

78. Supernatural

Image
78. Supernatural Plot: The brothers Winchester battle all sorts of monsters to protect humanity. My Thoughts: I love this freaking show. It is one of my favorites and every one of you should watch it. The monsters are good and the stories are great. The characters are real and the soundtrack kicks ass. Catch up on Netflix.

77. La Horde

Image
77. La Horde Rotten Tomatoes: 41%    IMDB: 5.8 Plot: Cops and gangsters team up against zombies.  My Thoughts: An hour and a half of watching people not be able to figure out that hitting the head stops the zombie. This film is too short to drag as much as it does. The gore looks great, I still hate fast zombies but I deal with it, ultimately give this one a pass.

76. Maniac

Image
76. Maniac Rotten Tomatoes: 47%   IMDB: 6.1 Plot: As Frank helps an attractive artist with her art show his urges come to the surface and he cannot repress them. My Thoughts: Elijah Wood owns this movie, he is in complete command of the entire 88 mins. Filmed almost entirely through Frank's POV it forces you to be an active participant of the murders. The gore is oozing and realistic, the violence is shocking and brutal. This film is one of the best remakes I have ever seen, it builds on the ideas of the original while bringing something new to the film. I will be revisiting this one several times.

75. Walking Dead (Pilot)

Image
75. Walking Dead (Pilot) TV.Com 8.7      IMDB: 8.7 Plot: A lawman wakes up in a deserted hospital to find a world over run by zombies. He sets out to find his family. My Thoughts: I had forgotten how strong the opening was for this show. The characters are strong, the actors are good and the effects look great. For a show that has wobbly seasons this was a fantastic start. And for your pleasure here is a bad lip reading with song.

74. Kolchak: The Night Stalker

Image
74. Kochak: The Night Stalker TV.Com 8.3   IMDB: 7.8 Plot: Kolchak is a journalist who never shies away from the truth, no matter how frightening or odd. Think an earlier X-Files. My Thoughts: It's odd to see "the old man" from Christmas Story in a supernatural series playing an almost bumbling reporter. I tend to think of him as the same character just this is his day job then he goes home to deal with Ralphie wanting a BB Gun. Kolchak presents himself as bumbling, buffleded and disorganized much like Columbo but also like Columbo it is an act, nothing slips by him and if you aren't careful he might sell you you're own shoes. The cases he runs into range from aliens to vampires to Jack The Ripper himself. This series is so freaking good, if you enjoy a good scifi horror tale this is a good way to go.

73. Best Worst Movie

Image
73. Best Worst Movie Rotten Tomatoes: 95%  IMDB: 7.4 Plot: A documentary about the making off and the cult following of Troll 2 the best worst movie ever made, filmed by the now grown child star of Troll 2. My Thoughts: This was a fantastic documentary, seeing people like George Hardy, who played the dad in Troll 2, in his real life as a dentist and is frankly a good person you can see it. No fun is had at the expense of someone in this film except by their self. It is an honest look at how something so bad can grip so many people. The only one who is delusional in this film is the director of Troll 2, Cladio, watching him realize during a screening that the fans are laughing at the film and not just at the intentionally funny scenes is a bit uncomfortable, and as his denial and anger grows I felt a mix of pity and irritation. I recommend this documentary though it is fantastic but watch Troll 2 first, it just makes it so more fun to see the actors now verses then.

72. Troll 2

Image
72. Troll 2 Rotten Tomatoes: 0%   IMDB: 2.5 Plot: What do you do if you are a vegetarian goblin but want to eat people? You use magic food to turn them into vegetables of course.  My Thoughts: If you can't enjoy a terrible movie, then avoid this like a plaque. It is terrible in every way possible and amazing as well. Follow up with the documentary about it.

71. House At The End Of The Street

Image
71. House At The End Of The Street Rotten Tomatoes: 11%  IMDB: 5.4 Plot: Is the good looking neighbor boy a harmless unfortunate victim, is his mentally challenged and murderous sister still roaming the woods, these are the central plot points to this movie.  My Thoughts: This one is just kind of meh, it's not particularly good or bad it's just actors and story going through the motions, the only real enjoyable part is the ending that had a fairly surprising twist. Weak recommend.

70. Devil

Image
70. Devil Rotten Tomatoes: 52%   IMDB: 6.2 Plot: Five people are trapped in an elevator, one of them has a dark rider. My Thoughts: Taking Agatha Christie's Then There Were None  adding in the devil and setting it in an elevator is one of those things that you swear you've seen before but haven't. This film is one I really like, it's claustrophobic and the tension continues to ratchet up effectively until the end.

69. Feast

Image
69. Feast Rotten Tomatoes: 56%  IMDB: 6.3 Plot: Creatures attack a bar. My Thoughts: This movie is ridiculous. From the title intro cards that list name, occupation and life expectancy to the over the top gore effects in other words I freaking love it! I watched this film come together on the reality series Project Green Light and as much fun as that was to watch this film is a blast in it's own right, if you love slightly cheesy crazy films this one is for you.

68. Room 237

Image
68. Room 237 Rotten Tomatoes: 93%   IMDB: 6.4 Plot: A documentary examining Stanley Kubrick's The Shining and all the possible meanings with in. My Thoughts: Full disclosure, The Shining is my favorite horror film and I consider Kubrick to be a god among men, he is unrivaled in my esteem when it comes to film. The theories presented here range from the likely, the native american connection, to the ridiculous, confession of faking the moon landing footage. What is great is listening to the talking heads present their ideas as you watch the footage they reference, my favorite scenes are when they show the film over laying itself playing forwards and backwards simultaneously and the great imagery it provides. If nothing else it really makes you want to watch The Shining again. I recommend this one.

67. Halloween

Image
67. Halloween Rotten Tomatoes: 94%   IMDB: 7.9 Plot: Michael Myers escapes from a mental institution that he has been locked in for the last 15 years after killing his sister, and now he returns to his home town to carve a bloody path through stand ins for his departed sister. My Thoughts: This is the slasher film by which all are measured. This is a classic, the theme is well known and the mask is legend. It is a small budget and simple story that is effective in ways that it's countless imitators never could achieve. I love this movie and it is a yearly staple.

66. Mama

Image
66. Mama Rotten Tomatoes: 66%   IMDB: 6.3 Plot: After being left alone in a cabin in the woods for years two little girls are given to their uncle to take care of them, but were they really alone? My Thoughts: Honestly I had a hard time staying awake through this one, it was predictable and offered nothing new. The ghost design was poor CGI and was basically a J-Horror style ghost with long dark hair, wide empty eyes and screaming face, and when it would actually walk instead of ooze along the ground it had the jerky movements of the ghosts in the House on Haunted Hill remake and Silent Hill video game series. I love Del Toro but I have been less than impressed with the titles he has produced, I think he tries to give the filmmakers complete reign which I respect but I think they could use his guiding hand the same as Spielberg has done for young directors he produced. The ending was a bit of a surprise and I liked that but it wasn't worth the rest of the film to g

65. Bride of Frankenstein

Image
65. Bride of Frankenstein Rotten Tomatoes: 100%   IMDB: 7.9 Plot: Picking up where the first Frankenstein film left off we learn the monster survived the burning windmill and now demands that Dr. Frankenstein, with the help of Dr. Pretorius, create a companion for him. My Thoughts: This is one of the most beloved movies, horror or other wise, we all know the image of Frankenstein's monster and his bride but how does the film hold up? Some parts better than others. There are some scenes that are just bad, Dr. Pretorius' experiments of tiny people in jars dressed up in costumes is just silly and if you don't laugh at the gypsy that runs around with her hands up, eyes wide and screaming there might be something wrong with you. That being said the makeup effects look fantastic and Boris Karloff and Elsa Lanchestar do wonderful as the monster and bride. Not to mention she is one of the most beautiful monsters in film history. Everyone should see this film, it is

64. Nosferatu

Image
64. Nosferatu Rotten Tomatoes: 96%   IMDB: 8 Plot: Vampire Count Orlock takes up new residence and sets his sights and fangs upon the neighbor's wife in this first screen adaption of Bram Stockers Dracula. My Thoughts: The main reason to watch this film is for the performance of Max Schreck as the Vampire Orlock. His skeletal features and cold dead stare are one of the greatest filmed vampire performances in history.  A good companion piece to this film is Shadow of the Vampire a what if making of Nosferatu that stipulates Max Schreck was not an actor but rather an actual Vampire, which seems entirely possible from what we see on screen. I did not listen to the soundtrack provided on the film I instead chose to listen to Rob Zombie's Hellbilly Deluxe and Hellbilly Deluxe 2, while not perfect in every scene it was awesome how much did match up and work, for instance Hellbilly Deluxe 2's "Theme for an angry Red Planet" played over Orlock stalking th

63. The Purge

Image
63. The Purge Rotten Tomatoes: 38%   IMDB: 5.5 Plot: For one night a year there is no law, all crimes are legal. A well to do family protect a homeless man from a group of killers and become targets themselves. My Thoughts: The writers and directors wanted to make a statement, about rich vs poor, white vs black, or maybe America's thirst for blood. I don't know. Not knowing indicates that I'm either stupid, always possible, or that they didn't pull it off. Everything here as been done before and slightly better, the polite leader of the killers, Funny Games. No laws, Escape from New York. Home invasion, Funny Games (again) Strangers, Home Alone. Part of the problem is that I never feel danger for the family, sure I'm positive one will die but I am comfortable in the knowledge that they will see the end of the purge. The most interesting part of the movie is the family slipping into these violent roles as they struggle morally with turning him over

62. Curse of Chucky

Image
62. Curse of Chucky Rotten Tomatoes: 77%   IMDB: 5.6 Plot: Chucky is back to terrorize a new family and play a game of hide the soul. My Thoughts: Fanfreakingtastic! I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, this is my personal favorite of the franchise and is definitely the best since parts 1 and 2. Don't let the trailer or pics fool you like they did me, they look CGI heavy but the film is what we love in a Chucky flick a puppet moving around being creepy as shit. The laughs are tampered back down from the last two this is more horror and it actually delivers chills. I cannot recommend this one enough, I watched the unrated and I don't know how it compares with the rated version, this one should have been in theaters it's a downright shame that it was dumped direct to DVD but trust me it is worth your time. Be sure to watch through the credits for the post credit scene. I'm hoping there is a number seven on the way, if they keep the aesthetic of this on

61. Hellraiser VI: Hellseeker

Image
61. Hellraiser VI: Hellseeker Rotten Tomatoes: 0%   IMDB: 4.9 Plot: A man with amnesia is searching for his missing wife and suffering strange hallucinations as he tries to piece together what happened after a car accident. My Thoughts: If it seems like these last two films in the series don't seem to fit with the Hellraiser franchise there's a reason, Inferno and Hellseeker were horror scripts that the studio had and didn't want to risk doing without a name attachment so they tweak the scripts to include the cenobites and boom, new Hellraiser film. Doing this one as a mystery gives it a fresh approach, the interesting thing about the franchise is that the films play with their formula, you know the puzzle box is involved but exactly how is the real question. This changing up keeps the films fresh in a way, they're not just about teens getting killed, they at least try to develop character which is nice if not always effective. So far six films in I'

60. Hellraiser V: Inferno

Image
60. Hellraiser V: Inferno Rotten Tomatoes: NA   IMDB: 5.4 Plot: A detective opens up the puzzle box and is drawn into a murder mystery looking for the "Engineer" My Thoughts: The most different of the Hellraiser films so far. This one plays out like a bizarre murder mystery as the detective tries to unravel the brutal killings surrounding him. The Cenobites appear in the background and in hallucinations until the end and even then the answers are not quite clear. This movie is an absolute mess, but there are some good points. I enjoy the acting from the main character, I also think that it was time to change up the formula of the Hellraiser franchise. There are things that don't work but all in all not a bad entry into the Hellraiser canon.

59. Fright Night (2011)

Image
59. Fright Night (2011) Rotten Tomatoes: 72%  IMDB: 6.4 Plot: Charley learns from his former best friend Ed that his new neighbor Jerry is a vampire. He seeks the help of Criss Angel like stage magician and self proclaimed vampire expert Peter Vincent to put Jerry in the soil in this remake of the 1985 original (see movie post 54). My Thoughts: Remakes are a tricky business, you have built in name recognition and a built in pissed off fan base that no matter what you do you want please so why do them, well sometimes it's a cheap cash grab and sometimes you have something to say with the material, good examples of the latter being The Fly and The Thing. This one falls into the camp of taking the major themes and building blocks but constructing something new from them. Colin Farrell's version of Jerry is not the smooth charming gentleman of Chris Sarandon, watch for a cameo by him as well in the car accident scene, he is rather a tough but good looking charming

58. Goosebumps

Image
58. Goosebumps Rotten Tomatoes: NA    IMDB: 7.7 Plot: A kids horror anthology series based on the young adult books by R.L. Stine well known to kids of the 90's. My Thoughts: A huge part of my early horror obsession that I can now share with my kids, doesn't hold up as well but still a nostalgic treat.

57. Paranorman

Image
57. Paranorman Rotten Tomatoes: 87%  IMDB: 6.9 Plot: A kid with the ability to talk to the dead must save his town from an ancient curse. My Thoughts: A very funny heartfelt stop motion animated horror film on par with adult horror films of the past few years, it has heart, humor and a good story. Plus great monsters. Add in some good voice talent and you have a winner. Watch it.

56. Ernest Scared Stupid

Image
56. Ernest Scared Stupid Rotten Tomatoes: 17%   IMDB: 5.3 Plot: Ernest unleashes an ancient troll that turns kids into wooden dolls to raise his troll army. My Thoughts: A childhood favorite that still holds up for me today. My favorite of the Ernest Movies and probably the last good one. Eartha Kitt is great as the mysterious old lady Hackamore and Jim Varney was never better. The troll designs and costumes actually look really good. This is one of my quote heavy movies and would love to see it on a big screen so any body with hook ups at a theater make this happen. Recommend watch with kids.

55. Black Sabbath

Image
55. Black Sabbath Rotten Tomatoes: 86%  IMDB: 7.1 Plot: A trio of tales hosted by Boris Karloff directed by Mario Bava. My Thoughts: Full of atmosphere and good ideas but never really coming together to deliver the chills. It has also not aged very well, the pacing is slavishly slow and the acting clunky. Recommended only for Karloff devotees.

54. Fright Night

Image
54. Fright Night Rotten Tomatoes: 94%   IMDB: 6.9 Plot: Charley has a problem, his new neighbor is a vampire and no one will believe him, not his girlfriend Amy, nor his friend "Evil" Ed, not even the great vampire killer Peter Vincent at least until they become targets for old fang face.   My Thoughts: Easily one of the best vampire films ever made. The characters feel real, Chris Sarandon shines as the vampire Jerry, it is always funny to think that he is not only Prince Humperdink he is also the voice of Jack Skellington. To me the star of this movie though is Roddy Mcdowall as Peter Vincent, a refined send up of Peter Cushing, a has been star of horror films reduced to hosting a late night Fright Night movie program ala Elviria. A good movie to revisit time and again that plays with the genre and revels in  the absurdness of the predicament.

53. Ghostbusters (A review by a 10 year old)

Image
53. Ghostbusters Rotten Tomatoes: 96%    IMDB: 7.8 This summary and review was written by my 10 year old son Adam Jr. I watched this movie religiously growing up, at least 5 -7 times a week, and finally decided it was time to share it with him. The following is all in his own words.  Plot: it was about men capturing ghosts. Then, they have to go on the biggest adventure yet to save the world. My Thoughts: That movie was great!  I thought that the gargoyles were going to be haunted by ghosts, but actually they turned into monsters. You should watch it. It is scary, but good. Good for 10 and up.

52. Chained

Image
52. Chained Rotten Tomatoes: 73%   IMDB: 6.2 Plot: Vincent D'Onofrio stars as Bob, a serial rapist/killer that snatches a woman and her young son. After disposing of the mother he decides to keep the boy, whom he names Rabbit, chained to a wall as a slave/pet/student. Their relationship shifts between an odd father/son type to madman/pet, until the man decides that Rabbit should be educated on certain things. Jennifer Lynch, daughter of David Lynch, directed. My Thoughts: Vincent D'Onofrio returns to film strong, this is a layered performance that will stay in my head for years to come. This movie is disturbing, it affected me emotionally on a level that I haven't experienced in film since 2007's Inside. I felt for these characters. Spoilers ahead for those who have seen it, I recommend seeing this film though it is fantastic. SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT! While I didn't see the twist ending coming, I felt it was unneccesary and remov

51. Aquabats Super Show

Image
51. Aquabats Super Show Rotten Tomatoes: NA   IMDB: 6.7 Plot: The Aquabats is a kids tv show that is beyond weird, I really don't even know what to compare it to. In the show, which is a mix of live action and animation, the Aquabats are a musical band who go on adventures. The episodes I watched for this were :Haunted Battle Tram" and "The Floating Eyeball of Death" one where they invoke the wrath of a ghost by eating his burrito and the other they accidentally summon a giant floating eyeball of death that devours human souls.  My Thoughts: This is weird on a level that i just don't know what to do with. It is equal parts funny and annoying, I love the monster designs which are reminiscent of Power Rangers or Godzilla sequels. The music in the show is surprisingly good and the animated adventures are a good throw back to the adventure cartoons of the 70's. If you have kids or are really stoned I recommend giving this one a shot.

50. Sharknado

Image
50. Sharknado Rotten Tomatoes: 80%    IMDB: 3.4 Plot: A hurricane drives a swarm of sharks towards LA where the hurricane shoves them on land where they swim the streets and launch from sewers. Tornados form over the water creating water sprouts and sucking the sharks into the air creating a swirling biting vortex of terror. My Thoughts: No one can watch this movie and complain about it being stupid because you'd be the idiot to expect any thing else. This movie is exactly what  it says it is, dumb fun. The effects are bad, the acting is worse and the story is ridiculous I recommend.

49. Tales From The Hood

Image
49. Tales From The Hood Rotten Tomatoes: 38%    IMDB: 5.8 Plot: An anthology film focusing on a trio of gang bangers trying to pick up some drugs from a funeral home and the creepy mortician that is stalling for time by telling them stories about how the people met their fate. The first story deals with a group of racist cops facing the vengeful corpse of a man they murdered. The second is about a child being abused at home. The third is about a bevy of murderous spirit dolls and the final tale is about a gangster being reformed ala Clockwork Orange. My thoughts: Like all anthology movies this one is uneven. The first story has some decent gore but the acting and characters are awful and the story is tripe and predictable. The second is by far the best with a creepy turn by comedian David Allan Grier as an abusive monster. The third... why do so many anthology horror films have murderous dolls I just don't get it. The character of the racist politician is cartoony
