Deja View: Robocop (non spoiler edition)

I want to say upfront that Robocop is my second favorite action film, the only one I put above is Die Hard. So it was with a mix of excitement and dread that I faced the reboot. There will be a later post that goes into detail on the film series and will contain spoilers this one however is just a thumbs up or down quick post.

Robocop 1987

Robocop stars Peter Weller as Alex Murphy a cop in Detriot who dies in the line of duty and is turned into Robocop to patrol the streets and stop crime. 
As I said in the intro this is one of my favorite movies, I recommend you watch it several times. There is such a sadistic glee in the violence in this film and the humor is as dark as it gets. Watch it again and again. 


Robocop 2 (1990)
Robocop 2 stars Peter Weller as Robocop who continues to patrol the streets of Detroit and has to go up against OCP's drug addled Robocop 2.
This movie is not as violent and not as funny as the first one but it does have alot of good stuff. I recommend this one.

Robocop 3 (1993)
Robocop 3 does not exist at all and you should not watch it because it doesn't exist don't bother.

Robocop (2014)
Robocop is the reboot of the 1987 film this one starring Joel Kinnaman as Alex Murphy a Detroit cop killed in the line of duty who is rebuilt by OCP as part robot to fight crime.
This is what I like in a remake. Take the ingredients I liked from the original dish and make a whole new meal with it. The first was a taco this one is a burrito. I loved it, I would watch it again right now. I recommend seeing this one. Thumbs way up!

3. Cabin in the Woods Plot: 5 teens go into the woods and some bad stuff goes down My thoughts: I freaking love this movie, it is one of the best horror films of the past decade. It is loaded with injokes and forces you to examine who exactly you root for in these types of movies. Joss Whedon's brand of humor really shines in this film. High Recommend.

2. Event Horizon Plot: A ship with the ability to bend time and space was lost 7 years ago a crew head out with the scientist that built the engine to find out where it went and what happened to it's crew. My thoughts: I saw this movie in either 98 or 99, I remember being told then that it was the scariest film by several of my friends. I remember really liking it and being freaked out by it would it hold up now after all I've seen? Yes and no. Now I can see the bits that were borrowed, for instance the interior of the ship, especially the gravity drive/gateway is a copy of the  Lament Configuration from Hellraiser and I imagine that this may well be what happens inside that infamous cube. That being said I still really enjoy this film, Sam Neill is one of my favorite actors and when you toss in Lawrence Fishburn as a tough but compassionate Captain then you got pure win.
